In order to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe."

one of my paintings from 2009

that  quote is by the immensely smart (and deceased) Carl Sagan.

When you are in Bali, you actually have time to ponder such things.

I have made too many apple pies to count (YumYum Apple  Tatin)
and I am a classic subscriber to the adage,"God is in the details"
but  this upcoming week I  just may have the opportunity  to witness an ancient tradition akin to ancestral (universal)
worship (creation).
The holiday of Galungun arrives on Wednesday.  Every 6 months in the Bali calendar of 210 days they celebrate this holiday.
In the family temple, in the village temple..... in the streets,
ritualized  worship to remember the BEGINNING.
I will be wearing traditional sarong and sash (and covered arms) to obtain egress into the temple.  It is joyous........and the
preparations have been going on for weeks.  There are
40 foot long bamboo poles, bending with offerings beginning to line  streets .  The excitement is palpable...... and I will be attending a ceremony this evening at the pura desa .(village temple)
The celebration lasts for 10 days  and then  I will go to a rural village and participate in a TRANCE ceremony of culmination.

I  will give myself over to complete entropy.

And this will be my way of experiencing a Creation.
(pass the mushrooms)

Let the cosmological games begin !

p.s. I do intend to to return for Friday's Bahasa Indonesie classes
p.p.s and the weekly  literary meetings at cafe luna
as I am Zena + Ted's daughter (in all parallel universes)
